Driving Conversations: A Quarterly ADTSEA-FL Forum on Florida Driver Education

September 02, 2026   •   9:00 am - 10:00 am

Florida's Driver Education landscape is changing quickly. Driving Conversations is ADTSEA-FL's quarterly open forum for anyone with a stake in Driver Education and Traffic Safety in this state: district administrators, coordinators, and supervisors, classroom and behind the wheel instructors, private and third party providers, state and agency partners, safety organizations, researchers, and industry.
Each quarter the group works through the issues participants bring to the table. Program structure and funding. Staffing and certification pipelines. Curriculum, delivery models, and course design. Crash and safety data. What is actually working in the field right now.
Nothing to prepare and nothing to present. Bring your experience and your questions, compare approaches with people solving the same problems, and leave with ideas you can put to use in your program.

The American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association - Florida (ADTSEA-FL) aims to improve the quality of driver education in Florida through advocacy, professional networking, sharing of resources, and developing educational opportunities for driver education and traffic safety professionals.

ADTSEA-FL was founded in August 2022 to enhance the quality of driver education in Florida. Its inception began with informal discussions and fact-finding missions to determine the feasibility of a state-level association affiliated with the American Driver & Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA). Initial meetings focused on gathering input from public and commercial driver education stakeholders and identifying organizational goals. A key milestone was the decision to pilot the organization as a potential chapter of ADTSEA, ensuring alignment with its mission and infrastructure. By late 2022, formal plans for incorporation began, culminating in the approval of an ADTSEA/ADTSEA-FL dual membership model in November. This partnership with ADTSEA aimed to streamline membership processing and offer shared benefits to members of both organizations.

In 2023, efforts ramped up with the creation of a draft constitution and a comprehensive needs assessment to engage stakeholders statewide. The constitution was ratified in April 2024, marking a significant step toward establishing a robust organizational framework. Simultaneously, leadership identified key operational priorities, including securing insurance, initiating banking partnerships, and preparing the groundwork for resource-sharing platforms.

By late 2024, ADTSEA-FL held regular board meetings and began developing its website and outreach strategies to serve Florida's driver education professionals. With dual membership in place, plans for roundtable listening sessions in early 2025 signal ADTSEA-FL's commitment to fostering collaboration between public educators, commercial driving schools, and governmental agencies to improve driver education standards across the state.

Today, ADTSEA-FL stands as a growing network of professionals dedicated to enhancing road safety and educational outcomes in Florida.

Events

What are stakeholder roundtables?

These are virtual discussions bringing together driver education professionals, public school administrators, and commercial driving school owners to address industry challenges and best practices.

Governance + Financing

How is ADTSEA-FL different from ADTSEA?

ADTSEA-FL associates and receives support from ADTSEA through a dual-membership model. ADTSEA-FL focuses on local initiatives and professional development within Florida, while ADTSEA operates on a national level. Through dual membership, ADTSEA-FL members gain access to both state and national resources.

How is ADTSEA-FL funded?

ADTSEA-FL is funded through membership dues, event registrations, sponsorships, and grants.

How is ADTSEA-FL governed?

ADTSEA-FL is overseen by an elected Executive Board, which votes on major decisions, including the selection of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to manage daily operations. Elections take place annually, with nominations opening in January and voting occurring in February. Members in good standing are eligible to vote and run for board positions.

Membership

Does ADTSEA-FL offer financial assistance for educators?

While we don't offer direct financial aid, we strive to connect educators with grants and funding opportunities for professional development.

How much does membership cost?

Membership dues are set annually by the ADTSEA-FL Board. ADTSEA membership is $50 and ADTSEA-FL membership is $20 per year. By joining ADTSEA, ADTSEA-FL members are credited $20 and join both organizations for $50. The current rates and alternative membership plans will be displayed on the membership registration portal.

What is dual membership with ADTSEA?

ADTSEA members in Florida automatically become ADTSEA-FL members, gaining access to both state and national benefits, including conferences, online resources, and professional certifications.

Who can join ADTSEA-FL and what are the bennefits?

Any individual or organization involved in driver education, including public school instructors, commercial driving school operators, and traffic safety professionals, can join. Members gain access to exclusive resources, training opportunities, professional development, networking events, and the dual membership program with ADTSEA, which includes national-level benefits.
